Introduction

ALYSSA: Hey guys! Welcome to a bonus episode of Breakfast in Beauclair, a global Witcher podcast. My name is Alyssa from Good Morhen and I'll be your host as you, I, and our international Hanza accompany the Geralt of Rivia, and his destiny, Cirilla of Cintra, across The Continent.

As this episode drops on Thursday at, like, 2am Eastern, I will literally be on the tarmac in Dublin on my way to our very first European Hanza meetup. I'm so excited to spend the weekend with a bunch of people from our community. It'll be so much fun. We have so much planned for Belfast. But first, you know, this episode! If you heard it in the previous episode, Episode 54, both Lars and I are on vacation and we will be back for a brand new episode of Breakfast in Beauclair two weeks from now. That being said, what I have for you guys today is an episode of the Quiz of Surprise.

The Quiz of Surprise is a game show in which our guests go head-to-head in trivia about the things that we literally just discussed. Everything that we talked about over the last three hours is fair game. So that's what you'll hear today with Kyle and Elora. So, following Elora and Kyle's appearance on the podcast, here is their Quiz of Surprise episode.

If you are interested in hearing other guests of the show competing in the Quiz of Surprise, you can pledge at patreon.com/breakfastinbeauclair for as little as $1 (or your currency) to get all the digital bonus content. Producer-level patrons, of course, receive their name read in every single episode, as well as a Christmas present from me and a creator in our community every year. So…yeah! That's, that's about it. These episodes are so fun, so unhinged., so funny, and very casual. So, I hope you enjoy this sneak peek into the bonus content that our patrons receive. Yeah, so enjoy!

Discussion

[Breakfast in Beauclair stinger by MojoFilter Media]

ALYSSA: Hi, patrons. Welcome to this episode's Quiz of Surprise. Yaaaaay!

KYLE: I like how you have a different voice for that.

ELORA: Yeah.

KYLE: A little intro voice.

ALYSSA: I don't even know what it is. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just like–

KYLE: It almost was like a, like, it was like a show, like a–

ELORA: Yeah, quiz host!

KYLE: Yeah, like a quiz host, yeah, that means we need music!

ALYSSA: We don’t have a theme song! Yes. This is the Quiz of Surprise. And so, I'm here today with our guests for episode 203: What Is Lost, Kyle from the US and Elora from The Netherlands. Hi, guys!

KYLE: Hello!

ELORA: Hello!

ALYSSA: Yay. So, this is the Quiz of Surprise. It is the quiz show in which we will talk about everything we literally just discussed and see how well Kyle and Elora have retained the contents of our two-and-a-half-hour conversation.

KYLE: Some of, I mean, some of our Hanza members know I don't have the best memory. Things going in one ear, right out the other.

ALYSSA: Gary told me, no, Gary told somebody else when he thought I was–no, hey Elora! Gary said this to you specifically.

ELORA: Oh no!

KYLE: Here it comes, here it comes the dirt.

ALYSSA: He goes, when he was on the phone with you and Steven. He goes "Yes, Steven's fine. He's not gonna say anything. Also, Alyssa has the memory of a goldfish.” And I wouldn't have been paying attention had he not called me out and now I think about it a lot. So, it's his fault.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Really, but yeah.

ELORA: Well do you remember? The secrets we talked about?

ALYSSA: Vaguely.

KYLE: Like Amendium secret? Oh, I wish I could be there for the fly on the wall for that.

ALYSSA: I– see now that you're putting me on the spot, I kind of forget. But if it came up again!

KYLE: Right?

ALYSSA: no, now that, now that you're prompting me, I vaguely remember something that I probably can't say in front of Kyle, but I–

KYLE: No no it's fine. you could, it's fine.

ALYSSA: I'm piecing the things together.

KYLE: You know, I was I was actually there too. You could probably just say it, it'll be totally fine. That's why I take notes for the, for our D&Ds because I wouldn't remember our games if we didn't, like, that's like my secret. I'm like, I'll just be the note taker, the scribe.

ALYSSA: Oh, a hundo p, me as well.

KYLE: One hundo p.

ALYSSA: I transcribe everything because I wouldn't remember it all.

KYLE: Yeah, I'm like, I'm just, what I say is I'm just wrapped up in the game. I'm just so focused, so I forget other things.

ALYSSA: So, all of this bodes very well for the, for our Quiz of Surprise.

KYLE: Great.

ALYSSA: So, you listeners already know the rules. We're just going to ask 10 questions, we'll see how well they do. Elora and Kyle get a point for each question they get right, sometimes two, sometimes three, depending on the question. I give out bonus points like candy. If you guys make us laugh, if you say something that's like a terrible pun, if you say something very clever, or if I just like it, you will get a bonus point.

KYLE: Yes! Points!

ALYSSA: The points don't really matter. So, this is all in good fun. And again, thank you to our patrons for supporting the show. And I hope that you enjoy this Quiz of Surprise.

KYLE: This is where like there'll be another, another intro-like sound comes in. Quiz of Surprise, doo-doo-doo-doo.

ALYSSA: Or it's like, the, like, who wants to be a millionaire? Dun-dun-dun-dun!

KYLE: Yey!

ALYSSA: It's very impressive. We obviously don't have buzzers here in the land of Google Hangouts.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Uhm, so you will also get, you also may get bonus points for how creative your buzzers are throughout the game. So, feel free to make whatever buzzer noise, word, verb, sound thing that you would like–

KYLE: Onomatopoeia.

ALYSSA: –in order to let us know that you would like to answer this question.

KYLE: Okay.

ALYSSA: So, any other questions before we get started?

KYLE: No.

ELORA: That's the most important one.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Perfect. So, I need one for Elora. There's like they didn't spell that correctly at all. That's just a scribble. And one for Kyle. Okay. So, question number one. Which Witcher had to cook lunch at Kaer Morhen?

ELORA: Uh.

KYLE: Awooga!

ALYSSA: Kyle.

KYLE: Uh, Lambert.

ALYSSA: It was Lambert! Hooray! And one, and Kyle is now on the board.

KYLE: That's the best one you're gonna get me for the, for the honking noise. Otherwise, I'm gonna make a pretty normal noise.

ALYSSA: All right, well, let's go to question two then. Question two. What did Eskel and Geralt tie to a jug?

ELORA: Ooooah!

ALYSSA: Elora?

ELORA: Uh, bumblebee?

ALYSSA: It was a bumblebee! Uh, it was probably very angry bumblebees as well.

KYLE: I was about to say, like, no! it was a a wasp, like–

ELORA: Yeah.

ALYSSA: If any of you guys do get questions wrong, we do go for the steal.

KYLE: Oooh!

ALYSSA: Slight tension? No, there's no tension, this is all in good fun.

KYLE: Says you.

ELORA: Yeah, the more often you say this, the more competitive I become.

KYLE: Coming for blood.

ALYSSA: Oh man, speaking of blood, question three, how many mages died at Sodden?

KYLE: Meh!

ALYSSA: Kyle?

KYLE: Mages, thirteen! right?

ALYSSA: It was thirteen! Yeah, it was thirteen. Because, yeah, Triss/Yennefer was the fourteenth.

KYLE: Right.

ALYSSA: Speaking of Sodden. Question four, how long has it been since the Battle of Sodden?

ELORA: Oh, God.

KYLE: Meh!

ALYSSA: Kyle.

ELORA: It's not two years.

KYLE: No, it's not two years. I think it's one month.

ALYSSA: It is one month! Hooray! Yeah, they do say that a couple of times throughout the episode. Tissaia says, you know, "we waited one month before we engraved it".

ELORA: Oh yeah.

KYLE: Yeah, yeah.

ALYSSA: And there were also like a couple of other things. I think Stregobor was like "What have you been doing for a month?" Um, so they do drop that a couple of times.

KYLE: Just like Elora says with the visual stuff. It's subconscious at this point for me. Did not consciously think about that.

ALYSSA: Um, Question number five, what is the Elven name for Cintra?

ELORA: Bloorp! I don't know what that was, I was just, the first, the first buzzer right? Okay.

KYLE: I love that, it’s just the first noise that comes out.

ELORA: It's Xin'Trea.

ALYSSA: That is what it is! it is spelled X-I-N apostrophe T-R-E-A.

KYLE: I gotta say, I love when people throw apostrophes in the most random spots in fantasy. It's, I don't know why I really do love that.

ELORA: That's elves, I can see the apostrophe, that's an elf.

KYLE: That’s elves for ya, yeah.

ALYSSA: Just getting saucy with the apostrophes.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: This is super easy. But question number six. What's the name of the training obstacle that Ciri attempts?

ELORA: Blep!

KYLE: Beeemp!

ALYSSA: that was identical on my end? So, I don't know how we're gonna do this. You guys can both say it at the same time.

ELORA: Yeah, countdown.

KYLE: The pendulum.

ELORA: Yes, pendulum.

KYLE: Countdown, sike!

ALYSSA: I'll give that to both of you because–

ELORA: Oh!

ALYSSA: I, I believe both of you got it.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Okay, question number seven, there is a bonus point on the table for this. So question seven, who does Stregobor tell the fiery story of, and for a bonus point tell us their importance in The Witcher lore.

ELORA: Eeeh? That's a questioning, questioning buzzer.

ALYSSA: Elora, go ahead.

ELORA: He tells the story of Falka.

ALYSSA: Yes?

ELORA: Who is important because, and this was the "eeeh".

KYLE: Yeah.

ELORA: Because that was specifically the bit that I've read over a little bit. Uh, because she is a quarter elf and she did a whole rebellion, which cost Stregobor his lower arms, apparently, and also she was…no, she was actually trying to get her kingdom back?

ALYSSA: Yeah! I mean, you've covered everything that they covered in the episode.

KYLE: Yeah,

ALYSSA: So, hooray! That's the importance.

ELORA: That's good because I don't remember the rest.

ALYSSA:  It's more or less the same between the books and the show, with at least what they've told us so far.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Again, if there's an anime movie, who knows what, what creative liberties they could take. But Falka was the oldest daughter of the king of Redania. And then, when her father got a second wife, he basically booted them back to Kovir, and then Falka came back to incite a rebellion against her father, in order to get what she believed she was owed as the first, as the eldest daughter, as the firstborn.

ELORA: That's really all Sapkowski needed to tell me.

ALYSSA: Yeah, we got a lot more than that around Time of Contempt and Baptism of Fire. But for the moment, that's all we really need to know.

KYLE: Right.

ALYSSA: Yeah, a bonus point to Elora which now sets the score at five for Elora and four for Kyle.

ELORA: Oooh.

KYLE: Ooooh.

ALYSSA: Oooh, very tight.

KYLE: Very tight.

ALYSSA: Uh, so we have three more questions left. Question number eight. What does Geralt find in Ciri's wall?

KYLE: Wah!

ALYSSA: Kyle?

KYLE: Calanthe's scarf.

ALYSSA: Yes! It is Calanthe's scarf, that somebody might have been st–it's so weird that he has to dig it out of the wall. And there's no indication that there was anything there before.

ELORA: Yeah, he’s just like, I feel a sense, a witcher sense is telling me.

KYLE: Yeah, like, they didn't even bother having a quick scene of Ciri stuffing it up there or anything?

ALYSSA: No, which is I think, there is a scene, I think in the, in the previous episode, where she kind of, like, smells it and holds it to her.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: But I don't know. It's kind of weird. In any case, for I don't know, one or two points–

ELORA: Depending on who it is, huh? yeah.

KYLE: Yeah!

ALYSSA: I just, I haven't, because this question feels really easy. So, I feel like it's really just worth one point even though there are two answers.

KYLE: Okay.

ALYSSA: Question number nine, what are the two creatures that Geralt and Ciri encounter in the woods?

ELORA: Meeh.

KYLE: Eeh.

ALYSSA: So, who got that first?

KYLE: It's so weak on both ends.

ALYSSA: I do think that Elora got that first.

KYLE: Yeah, go ahead.

ELORA: Uh, it's both a Leshy and a Myriapod.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Yeah, I feel like that's a one-point question.

ELORA: A one-point question, yeah.

KYLE: Yeah, right.

ALYSSA: And the last question, so for either the win or for the tie. Question number 10. Who are the two featured monarchs at the memorial of Sodden?

KYLE: Eeh!

ALYSSA: Kyle.

KYLE: Um. King, wooooow.

ELORA: Yeah king, I think it was a king.

ALYSSA: It was at least one king, Kyke.

KYLE: Um, wow, wow, wow. Um, Vizimir and–

ALYSSA: Okay.

KYLE: Um, why am I bla–? Foltest?

ALYSSA: Yeah! It was, it was Vizimir of Redania and Foltest of Temeria!

KYLE: That was right out of my ass right there. I kept, literally the only other two I kept thinking about were Demavend and Henselt, and I was like it wasn't them.

ALYSSA: They're so obscure, Kyle, comparatively.

KYLE: I know!

ELORA: My brain was just like Stregobor, Stregobor, Stregobor, you just mentioned Stregobor.

ALYSSA: Well, you know at the end of that, with that last question 10, we are now tied six to six, Elora to Kyle. I don't have any more questions, so I guess it'll just be a tie.

KYLE: It's only right that we end in a tie.

ELORA: Yeah, it's all right.

KYLE: Yeah, very beautiful ending.

ELORA: Yeah, so peaceful.

ALYSSA: I think so as well. So, at the end of this, Kyle, Elora, how are you guys feeling about your joint win?

KYLE: it was fun! I like this game.

ELORA: Yes. Good game. I feel smarter.

KYLE: Alyssa, I think that – yeah, exactly. We all learned a little bit. I think it's it's, it tells you, Alyssa, that we need to have tiebreakers.

ALYSSA: I think it tells me that maybe I just scrap the entire podcast, and this becomes the podcast.

ELORA: Yeah.

KYLE: Yeah, exactly. You know, I wonder if you do this before with people so that–

ELORA: Yeah.

KYLE: That would be harder because I think some of the things I just caught while we were talking and I was like oh yeah, for sure. But if you did this before, I would have gotten two points.

ALYSSA: I purposely do this after because everyone's kind of loosey-goosey by the end and comfortable with each other.

KYLE: True.

ALYSSA: And it is more–because I, I always make sure to talk about the things that I do on the quiz in the episode.

KYLE: Like a good teacher!

ALYSSA: I always make sure, like, mention it at least once!

ELORA: Yeah.

ALYSSA: But yeah. So well at the end of this thank you both so much for being in the episode discussing What Is Lost, for playing along with this silly Quiz of Surprise as well, and I know we did this in the episode, but very quickly. Where can people find you? If they want to hear more of you or get to know you better?

KYLE: Yeah. So, you can always find me on the Hanza. I'm pretty active on there, daily, if not multiple times a daily. Otherwise, pretty small social media presence. You can find me on Instagram @_KyleHolden_ and that's K-Y-L-E H-O-L-D-E-N, send me a DM, send me friend requests, whatever it might be, always happy to talk to people

ELORA: Especially if you wanna join that good parenting podcast.

KYLE: Exactly! Yes. If you want to join this parenting podcast that we have slated for the future hit me up.

ELORA: And you can find me on Instagram or Twitter. It's @elorasperber, E-L-O-R-A S-P-E-R-B-E-R, hoo!

KYLE: I love how you had to look up to think about your own name, you're like spell it!

ELORA: Yeah. That's like E-L-O-R-A S-P-E-R-B-E-R, Yeah. It's easier in Dutch, not that pronunciation is much different.

KYLE: Yeah.

ALYSSA: Well, at the end of all that thank you both so much again for being part of this and thank you to our patrons for supporting the show and we'll be back with another Quiz of Surprise segment after the next series of episodes, byeeee!

KYLE: Byeeeeeee!

ELORA: Byeeeeeee!

Outro & Credits
