Ep. 127 — 405 'The Joy of Cooking' from Netflix's The Witcher

Tim and Val from Whiskey with Witcher join Alyssa for our discussion of Netflix’s The Witcher Episode 405 “The Joy of Cooking". Very important bits include: slowing down for the Hanza, the Hanza as a D&D party, Zoltan’s search for community, the opportunities in Jaskier’s musical memoir, Geralt’s stripper pants, Milva as the smartest person in the room, Regis’s animated origin story, why Skellen finally feels dangerous, rather mild spicy takes, and we cast ourselves in a self-produced ‘The Witcher: The Musical’.

ALYSSA (VOICEOVER): After escaping the Nilfgaardian attack, the reunited hanza trade stories around their camp. Zoltan and Yarpen recall their time in Mahakam, where Zoltan was wrongly accused of secretly arming humans. Milva confesses she killed her abusive stepfather, later finding refuge in Brokilon.

Jaskier sings his working memoir, "50 Years of Poetry,” explaining the origins of his rivalry with Valdo Marx, the mentee who stole his songbook. Regis, amused, suggests "Half a Century of Poetry” instead, then turns to healing Jaskier and Geralt. The vampire shares his reasons for sobriety and reveals he's 428 years old.

As a child, Cahir aided a hedgehog man named Urcheon. Years later, the Emperor personally recruited the Vicovarian for his loyalty and his discretion. Geralt realizes Urcheon is Emhyr and that the Emperor of Nilfgaard intends to marry his own daughter, Ciri. Cahir says Vilgefortz convinced Emhyr his fate is bound to Ithlinne's prophecy.

Alone, Geralt remembers telling Ciri the true origin of his name and his boyhood dream of knighthood. In the morning, the company searches for a way across the river.

In Redania, a condemned man buys his life from the king with a secret: Vilgefortz gave Emhyr a fake Ciri. He dies moments later from a curse, but the rumor spreads through the Redanian generals and back to Stefan Skellen. Skellen confronts Teryn, the false Ciri, with the truth: he knows she's an impostor, and appeals to her ambition to become queen.

Elsewhere, Fringilla is tortured by Vilgefortz until she gives up the sorceresses' location in Montecalvo, but manages to warn Yennefer first.
